BIO
Dana is a mechanical engineer by training and spent more than two decades working in quality and environmental management in the chemical industry. Today, she is a full-time freelance translator who enjoys the freedom of working from airports, hotels, beaches, mountain huts, wherever there is an internet connection.
Her passion for travel began long before she ever crossed a border. Growing up in Romania before 1989, she travelled the world from her desk through her father’s collection of Encyclopedias of the World’s States. With no photographs to guide her, only maps, facts and statistics, she relied on her imagination to bring distant landscapes, cultures and people to life.
When she is not exploring a new destination, Dana divides her time between her native Romania and Germany, her husband’s homeland and her country of adoption. The two met at a David Gilmour concert in the iconic amphitheatre in Pompeii, united by their shared love of live music.
Dana travels for the journey rather than the destination. She is driven by curiosity, seeking to understand people and cultures, share meals in every possible setting, from family kitchens to bustling markets and roadside cafés, and build genuine human connections along the way.
She has a particular affection for sunshine and long road trips, and wherever her travels take her, she makes it a point to seek out a slice of Black Forest cake, a surprisingly ambitious quest once you leave Germany.
Beyond her professional work, Dana is passionate about empowering women within and beyond the language industry. Through her volunteer roles with Women in Localization, the Institute of Translation and Interpreting, and the Romanian Association for Standardization, she helps create opportunities for women to connect, develop professionally, build confidence, and expand their horizons, whether in their careers or through travel.
