Patrick is the author of Narcotopia: In Search of the Asian Drug Cartel That Survived the CIA (affiliate), a fantastic account of Wa State, a de facto state located within Myanmar.  Through intensive reporting and research, Patrick traves the history and formation of Wa State and how this state has managed to persevere as an independent state.  Patrick will do a reading from his book and a Q&A will follow.  

BIO

Patrick Winn is an investigative journalist who has lived in Bangkok for 18 years. Much of his work focuses on rebellion, black markets and the narcotics trade. His latest book is Narcotopia: In Search of the Asian Drug Cartel that Survived the CIA. Winn’s first book is Hello, Shadowlands: Inside the Meth Fiefdoms, Rebel Hideouts and Bomb-Scarred Party Towns of Southeast Asia. His work frequently appears on The World, a foreign affairs radio show heard by millions each week on NPR stations across America. He has also written for The New York Times, Rolling StoneThe Times of London and many other outlets. Winn was also an associate producer for Hope Frozen, a Netflix original documentary, and a field producer for the Myanmar episode of Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown. Both won Emmys.
